Encarnacion-Strand will get Wednesday’s nightcap off to rest and recover after fouling a ball off the top of his foot during the opening contest. He’ll presumably undergo further evaluation and possibly additional testing to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status heading into Friday’s series opener against the Phillies.

It’s encouraging to see Steer in the lineup after Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters he’s dealing with some swelling after being hit by a pitch on the hand during the front-end of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Fenway Park. He also launched a two-run homer prior to being hit in the late stages of the contest. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at the moment.

Zulueta provides Cincinnati with some extra bullpen depth for the second game of Wednesday’s twin bill at Fenway Park. The 27-year-old righty has made only two relief appearances this season in the big leagues. He’ll likely head back to Triple-A Louisville at the end of the night.

Both events happened after play resumed today. Steer’s homer was a high fly to left that bounced off the top of the Green Monster. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 12 ballparks. The HBP afterwards was not a matter of retaliation, but Steer starting to swing at a fastball tailing in and taking it off the hand. He was checked by the trainer but was able to finish the game.

Let’s try this again. Naylor makes his return to Arizona’s lineup at DH on Wednesday night following a four-game absence due to neck spasms. It’s the type of issue that can be persistent and tends to linger so the hope for fantasy managers is that the extra time off put the issue to bed. The 28-year-old first baseman has put together an excellent Diamondbacks debut so far, hitting .304 with 10 homers and 10 steals through 77 games.

Torkelson also had a 405-foot flyout to center and a 101-mph lineout to third, making this his best performance in several weeks. Torkelson hit .207/.298/.366 in June and started doing some sitting against righties a couple of weeks ago. However, he’s now been in the lineup six straight games, including the last four against righties.
