This was a 2-0 game until Jeffers, Willi Castro and Harrison Bader all homered off Porter Hodge in a six-run eighth inning. Jeffers came into this one 3-for-22 with no RBI in his previous nine games, but he’s batting a solid .246/.342/.400 overall. It’d be nice if the Twins didn’t have to DH him so often, but at least he’s producing while in the slot.

Wentz was atrocious after coming to Minnesota via waiver claim; allowing 14 runs in eight innings. He’ll hit the waiver wire and likely go unclaimed, and Anthony Misiewicz will take his spot on the active roster.

Misiewicz will have a chance to make his season debut after signing with Minnesota in January. The 30-year-old has had some success at the highest level, but not on a consistent basis. He’ll likely be just a mid-inning option while with the Twins.

Morosi didn’t say that a trade was likely, but he did note that many teams, specifically the Boston Red Sox, are snooping around. Ryan still has two more years of team control under arbitration and should earn around $5 million next season, so there is no pressing need for the Twins to trade him; however, Minnesota is under strict salary limitations with their ownership group and is trying to revamp their core while not having to spend a lot of money. It will be highly unlikely that they re-sign Ryan when he’s a free agent in two years, so the Twins may choose to deal him now for a haul of prospects or MLB-ready players. Perhaps the Twins would be intrigued by Jarren Duran, who is also a former All-Star who is under team control through three more seasons. That could be an interesting start to trade discussions between those two teams.

Rutschman has been able to play catch and due some running and has played catch, but hasn’t progressed further than that. The 27-year-old will assuredly be back through the All-Star break, and then there’s a chance — but no guarantee — he could be back behind the plate by the end of July.

Goodman will get a day of maintenance against right-hander Lucas Giolito and the Boston bullpen. The 25-year-old All-Star selection will sit with Austin Nola catching and hitting ninth.

Herrera has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, but there’s optimism he’ll be ready to make it back to St. Louis following next week’s All-Star break. The 25-year-old slugging backstop hit the injured list back in late June with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.
