It’s probably the victory of the year for the Yankees, who were being no-hit by Bryan Woo while down 5-0 after seven. Stanton hit the homer after Matt Brash entered the game in the eighth, and the Yankees scored twice off All-Star Andrés Muñoz to tie things up in the ninth. They won in the 10th on an Aaron Judge sac fly. Anthony Volpe looked like he’d be out at home on a great throw from Julio Rodríguez, but Cal Raleigh missed the tag, ending the game. Stanton was a career .104/.228/.146 hitter in 57 plate appearances as a pinch-hitter before taking Brash deep tonight.

This was a masterful start by the newly minted All-Star Rodón. It was his first time completing eight innings as a Yankee and he did so by burying slider after slider on these Cubs hitters. That pitch forced 13 swings-and-misses on its own and looked even more dominant than that at times. Also, teammate Aaron Judge helped him out with two diving catches and a home run robbery of Pete Crow-Armstrong. Rodón will close out the first half with a 3.08 ERA over 119 2/3 innings with 135 strikeouts as one of the more impressive pitchers in the American League.

In what was a revenge game against the team that traded him away for salary relief this past offseason, Bellinger made the Cubs know what they were missing. He supercharged the Yankees’ offensive attack with three homers in a blowout victory. Funny enough, what would have been a fourth was robbed by Kyle Tucker in the seventh inning. We were that close to witnessing history. Nevertheless, Bellinger will close an incredible first half with an .838 OPS, 18 home runs, and nine stolen bases.

No official word yet, but we’re assuming Fried didn’t want to pitch on two days’ rest after starting Saturday. Rodón doesn’t seem like a great replacement choice at this point after posting a 5.34 ERA in his last six starts, but he was excellent prior to that.

Ohtani also drew a walk. The homer gives the reigning MVP 32 roundtrippers on the season and 60 RBI over 363 at-bats. Ohtani now has a two-homer lead over Kyle Schwarber — who also homered Friday — in the National League, and he’s on pace for just-under 55 homers after hitting 54 in 2024.

Schwarber is now up to 30 homers on the season, and that’s the fifth consecutive season the 32-year-old has reached that mark. He’s now also driven in 69 runs, and a homer and along with a walk has his OPS up to .944. Schwarber should remain as consistent of power threat as there is in the sport, because that’s what he’s done since the start of the decade.

Grichuk got the start against southpaw Tyler Anderson, and he hit his first homer off Anderson and another off left-handed Reid Detmers. The veteran outfielder now has seven homers on the season while slashing .241/.281/.468 over 158 at-bats.
