With tough left-hander Max Fried toeing the slab for the Yankees, combined with a late flight into New York on Thursday evening, O’s interim manager Tony Mansolino has given Henderson, Jackson Holliday, Cedric Mullins and Ryan O’Hearn the evening off. Expect all to be available off the bench for the right spot against a right-handed reliever. Luis Vazquez will start in Henderson’s place at shortstop and bat ninth for the O’s.

Cowser did his damage off of Edwin Uceta in the sixth inning, crushing a 369-foot (96.7 mph EV) three-run blast that gave the Orioles a 4-1 advantage. The 25-year-old outfielder also led off the fifth inning with a double, though he never advanced past second base. With his two-hit night, Cowser is now hitting .210/.269/.532 with six long balls and 10 RBI.

The 29-year-old right-hander made it look easy in this one, getting Jose Caballero on a called third strike, Kameron Misner on a fly ball to center and Danny Jansen on a called third strike to end it. It took him 21 pitches (12 strikes) to get the job done. On the season, Bautista holds a terrific 2.81 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 34/17 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings to go with 15 saves in 16 save chances. He’s rounding back into form as one of the game’s truly elite closers.

Washington will still be in the building on Friday night, watching from the suites. Bench coach Ray Montgomery will take over as the team’s acting manager while Washington is away. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we wish the Angels’ skipper the best in whatever it is that he’s going through and we hope to see him back on the diamond as soon as possible.

Just filling up the box score. In Raleigh’s fine first full season in the bigs, he finished with 27 homers, 46 runs scored and 63 RBI in 119 games. After today, he has 29 homers, 51 runs scored and 63 RBI in 73 games this season. Oh, and he’s 9-for-11 stealing bases.

Schwarber broke a 1-1 deadlock as he clobbered a 1-0 sinker from Anthony Bender for a majestic 428-foot (114.8 mph EV) solo shot in the eighth inning. That would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. The 32-year-old slugger finished the evening 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .241/.373/.533 with 23 homers and 54 RBI on the season.
