The 25-year-old outfielder also led off the fifth inning with a double, though he never advanced past second base. With his two-hit night, Cowser is now hitting .210/.269/.532 with six long balls and 10 RBI.

With tough left-hander Max Fried toeing the slab for the Yankees, combined with a late flight into New York on Thursday evening, O’s interim manager Tony Mansolino has given Henderson, Jackson Holliday, Cedric Mullins and Ryan O’Hearn the evening off. Expect all to be available off the bench for the right spot against a right-handed reliever. Luis Vazquez will start in Henderson’s place at shortstop and bat ninth for the O’s.

The 29-year-old right-hander made it look easy in this one, getting Jose Caballero on a called third strike, Kameron Misner on a fly ball to center and Danny Jansen on a called third strike to end it. It took him 21 pitches (12 strikes) to get the job done. On the season, Bautista holds a terrific 2.81 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 34/17 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings to go with 15 saves in 16 save chances. He’s rounding back into form as one of the game’s truly elite closers.

Langford has been scuffling a bit at the plate over the past few weeks, slashing .227/.289/.387 with three homers and 10 RBI over 83 plate appearances in his last 18 games. Sam Haggerty will start in his place in left field and bat second for the Rangers on Friday night in Pittsburgh.

Schneider noted that Roden would have been available off of the Jays’ bench in an emergency situation on Thursday. It sounds like he should be ready to return to action on Friday, though his viability for fantasy purposes may be going away soon with Daulton Varsho nearing a return from the injured list.
