Dollander tossed a clean first inning, then gave up a run on three hits in the second. He was roughed up in the third, giving up a run on a walk, hit, and groundout before loading the bases for Victor Caratini, who took him deep for a grand slam. It’s a positive sign that Tovar is making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.

Realmuto found some good spots today, getting his hits on outfield flies with xBAs if .350, .300 and .370. Still, he deserves some luck, considering he entered with a .355 slugging percentage versus a .404 xSLG. His exit velocity numbers are about the same as usual, but his now .365 slugging percentage is more than 60 points lower than his worst season mark (.428) from the last nine years.

Rogers contributed 21 homers in 2023 and 10 last year, but he has just 68 plate appearances this season after missing time with a strained oblique and taking a backseat to Dillon Dingler since returning. He’s batting .175/.294/.298.

It’ll be Ben Rice drawing the start at catcher with Wells receiving another day off. The 25-year-old backstop is dealing with artery damage in his left index finger that leads to an intermittent cold sensation and discoloration. The positive news is that additional testing, including an invasive procedure, ruled out any potential blood clots or an aneurysm. It seems like he’ll avoid the injured list and there’s a chance he’s back in New York’s lineup at some point later this week.
