    Hunter Goodman

    Hunter Goodman

    COL • C • #

Hunter Goodman went 2-for-4 with two solo homers, three runs scored, and a walk in Tuesday’s loss to the Astros.

Goodman made an instant impact in his return to Colorado’s lineup following a four-game absence due to a hamstring injury, taking Astros starter Colton Gordon deep for a solo homer in the second inning to put the Rockies on the board. He then drew a walk to lead off the third and scored on a sacrifice fly. Goodman later took Josh Hader deep for his second solo homer to cut the Astros lead to one in the ninth. The 25-year-old catcher is up to 16 homers and 50 RBI while slashing .290/.337/.532 across 315 plate appearances.

    Recap

Chase Dollander allowed six runs with one strikeout over 2 2/3 innings in a loss against the Astros on Tuesday.

Dollander tossed a clean first inning, then gave up a run on three hits in the second. He was roughed up in the third, giving up a run on a walk, hit, and groundout before loading the bases for Victor Caratini, who took him deep for a grand slam. Dollander allowed one more baserunner with one out in the third and was relieved at 69 pitches. The 23-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 6.65 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and a 50/29 K/BB ratio across 65 innings. He’ll take on the White Sox in Colorado on Sunday.

    Injury

Ezequiel Tovar (oblique) progressed to taking batting practice on Tuesday.

It’s a positive sign that Tovar is making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.

    Recap

J.T. Realmuto went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Padres.

Realmuto found some good spots today, getting his hits on outfield flies with xBAs if .350, .300 and .370. Still, he deserves some luck, considering he entered with a .355 slugging percentage versus a .404 xSLG. His exit velocity numbers are about the same as usual, but his now .365 slugging percentage is more than 60 points lower than his worst season mark (.428) from the last nine years.

    Recap

Jake Rogers hit his first homer of the year, a three-run shot off Trevor Williams, in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Nationals.

Rogers contributed 21 homers in 2023 and 10 last year, but he has just 68 plate appearances this season after missing time with a strained oblique and taking a backseat to Dillon Dingler since returning. He’s batting .175/.294/.298.

    Injury

Austin Wells (finger) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays.

It’ll be Ben Rice drawing the start at catcher with Wells receiving another day off. The 25-year-old backstop is dealing with artery damage in his left index finger that leads to an intermittent cold sensation and discoloration. The positive news is that additional testing, including an invasive procedure, ruled out any potential blood clots or an aneurysm. It seems like he’ll avoid the injured list and there’s a chance he’s back in New York’s lineup at some point later this week.
