Working as the lead-off hitter for just the second time this season, Domínguez made his presence felt with a home run as the first batter of the game. That was somehow his first home run since all the way back on May 21st. He hit another in the fifth that again gave the Yankees a lead before their bullpen blew it later on. He also grounded out to make the final out in this game with Aaron Judge stranded on deck. Despite the lack of home run power to this point, he’s stolen 14 bases and has a .273 batting average with a .783 OPS. Those are solid marks to hang one’s hat on just past the halfway point of the season.

Stroman danced into and out of trouble and gave up tons of loud contact, but still managed to put himself in position to earn the win against his former team. It’s a marvel how he can ever be effective though with practically the least velocity in the entire league. He threw just two pitches over 90 mph in this game and still threw his sinker nearly 70% of the time against right-handed batters. With Clarke Schmidt’s injury, he figures to have a secure spot in this rotation though and lines up to face the Mariners next time out.

The 30-year-old right-hander exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Phillies earlier in the week after he failed to garner a promotion to the big league club. Kuhnel has registered a 3.62 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 27/4 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Yankees.

The Yankees didn’t wait for the results of an MRI to make the move. Schmidt left last night’s game early after giving up three runs in three innings against the Blue Jays. Allan Winans figures to take his spot in the Yankees rotation next week.

Altuve was also caught stealing for the sixth time, if you’re looking for a negative. His two homers were among the five that Houston hit in the shellacking, and he also doubled. In addition, he drew two walks while scoring a total of four runs. Probably best to not focus on that caught stealing, in our humble estimation. Altuve is now slashing .269/.331/.443 with 15 homers and 44 RBI.

Bader ended this game on the first pitch of the ninth inning after jumping all over a first-pitch fastball from Kevin Kelly. He did the same to open the scoring in the fourth, also with a solo home run against a first pitch sinker from Zack Littell. Once again an everyday player – mostly due to his great defense – Bader is now up to 10 home runs and seven stolen bases on the season as a steady albeit boring contributor.
