    Jeremy Peña

    HOU • SS • #

Jeremy Peña went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI as the Astros walloped the Twins on Friday evening in Houston.

Peña led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Chris Paddack and scored the game’s first run on a two-out, two-run single by Cam Smith. He then singled in the second inning and scored on a two-run double off the bat of Jose Altuve. Peña also doubled in the third inning and then delivered a run-scoring single in the eighth that extended the Astros’ lead to 10-2. He has been locked in at the dish this season, slashing .333/.386/.498 with nine homers, 34 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

    Recap

Cam Smith singled in Christian Walker in the bottom of the ninth to give the Astros a 3-2 win over the Twins on Saturday.

Smith’s grounder hit to the left side hit right in front of the plate, but at 107.5 mph off the bat, if had just enough to get through the infield. Smith also had a 105.8-mph lineout to center today. Since a five-game hitless streak from May 30-June 4, Smith has gone 8-for-28 with six RBI in his last six games. He’s not a consistent run producer just yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

    Recap

Hunter Brown fanned a career-high 12 while allowing two runs in seven innings Saturday against the Twins.

The only damage came on a 345-foot homer from Brooks Lee. It’s Brown’s second career 10-strikeout game; he previous fanned exactly 10 against the A’s on May 26, 2023. It seems like he should have more of those, but he’s fanned nine on six occasions this year. Brown is tied for fifth in the majors with 105 strikeouts in 86 innings. He’ll likely face the Angels next Friday, unless the Astros want to move him up to take on the A’s on Thursday.

    Recap

Josh Hader was credited with a win Saturday after striking out two in a perfect ninth against the Twins.

Hader was given the ball in a 2-2 game and then got the win after the Astros walked it off in the bottom of the ninth. He’s 3-0 and a perfect 18-for-18 saving games, and it’d be a big surprise if he fails to become an All-Star for the sixth time next month.

    Recap

J.P. Crawford went 3-for-3 with two walks and a steal as the Mariners came back to beat the Guardians 4-3 on Saturday.

Jorge Polanco had the walkoff hit in the ninth. Crawford didn’t factor in then, and his five times on base tonight led to just one run scored and no RBI. He did steal his fourth base of the year, but he was also caught for the first time after being picked off first. Crawford has been a great surprise in hitting .295/.410/.401 in 285 plate appearances, but since he doesn’t excel in any category, his fantasy value remains limited.

    Geraldo Perdomo

    Recap

Geraldo Perdomo hit a three-run triple in the ninth inning and scored the winning run in an 8-7 comeback win over the Padres on Sunday.

The D-Backs entered the ninth inning trailing 7-3 with the normally-excellent Robert Suarez on the mound. Didn’t matter. With the bases full, Perdomo smoked a triple into right field to tie the game at 7-7. One batter later, Josh Naylor bounced into a fielder’s choice with Perdomo safe at the plate for the impressive win. He’s now up to 49 RBI over 70 games, and he’s slashed a solid 271/.366/.429 over his 243 at-bats.

    Recap

Trevor Story doubled twice and drove in a run in a win over the Yankees on Saturday.

Story doubled the lead for Boston to 2-0 with his double in the second inning to score Carlos Narváez. His second of the double of the game gives him seven on the season, and improves his slash to a still-middling .234/.278/.362.
