Mateo came out of Sunday’s rehab game with Triple-A Norfolk with the issue and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be shut down for a couple days. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this week. He’s been out since early June recovering from elbow inflammation.

Sanchez victimized Rangers’ right-hander Jacob deGrom for his 381-foot (105.0 mph EV) two-run shot in the fourth inning, pulling the Orioles to within a run at 3-2. That would be as close as they would get. The 32-year-old backstop finished the night 1-for-3 and is now hitting .259/.330/.469 with five homers and 24 RBI in 91 plate appearances on the season.

The 26-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. All of the scoring done against him came in the third inning as Adolis Garcia delivered a two-run single and Jonah Heim added an RBI knock. Young got eight swings and misses on 71 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll bring a miserable 7.02 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and a 15/11 K/BB ratio (16 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Braves.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

Betts receives his first day off since June 2 with rookie Hyeseong Kim getting an opportunity to handle shortstop on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. The 32-year-old fantasy star hasn’t exactly torn the cover off the ball in recent weeks, batting .240 (24-for-100) with just one homer and one steal in 25 games during the month of June.

It’s a positive sign that Tovar is making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.
