Tovar has yet to advance to taking full batting practice yet, but it’s a positive sign that he’s making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

The 24-year-old shortstop was able to come off the bench in each of the last three contests, but he’s finally back on interim manager Ray Montgomery’s lineup card.
