Polanco turned on an offering from Kolby Allard to give the Mariners a 6-2 lead. It’s the 11th homer of the season, and it’s encouraging to see him drive the ball from the right side after struggling — and at times not playing — against southpaws in 2025. Polanco is now hitting .266/.312/.464 on the season with 33 RBI. The majority of that damage was done much earlier in the year, however, as he’s hit just two homers since the start of May.

Tellez got the Mariners on the board with a solo homer off Gavin Williams in the fourth inning. It’s the 11th roundtripper of the season for the veteran first baseman, and his double was just his fifth. Tellez certainly has the raw power to hit the ball over the fence, but it’s hard to trust him as a one-tool player playing in a home park that suppresses that tool.

Castillo allowed just three hits, and two of those were solo homers in the third inning. That means he has allowed five homers over his last two starts, but for the rest of the contest the 32-year-old was excellent in a nice bounceback from his struggles against the Angels the last time out. Castillo now has a very solid 3.29 ERA over his 14 starts, and he’ll get a chance to keep up the good work against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

The fact that the M’s are already optioning Evans out bodes well for Logan Gilbert potentially rejoining the Mariners’ rotation on Monday as had been anticipated. Evans did a nice job in seven starts at the big league level, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 30/12 K/BB ratio over 40 innings. He should get another opportunity the next time the Mariners need an extra starter.

McKinstry roped a one-out triple into the right field corner off of left-hander Cade Povich in the second inning and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wenceel Perez. He also tripled to left field in the fifth inning, but the Tigers couldn’t cash him in that time. He’s now tied with Jarren Duran for the MLB lead with seven three-baggers on the season. He continues to excel in a utility role for the Tigers, slashing .276/.361/.438 with three homers, 19 RBI and five stolen bases.

McKinstry hustled out a leadoff triple off of Kris Bubic to open the third inning. He then made a quick decision and scampered home on a wild pitch to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. That would wind up being the only tally for either team in the game. The versatile 30-year-old finished the day 1-for-3 and is now hitting .267/.358/.420 with three homers, 19 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

The homer was just his second in 202 career plate appearances against lefties. McKinstry was a .205 hitter versus southpaws coming into the season, but he’s at .361 (17-for-47) right now. Righties, on the other hand, have been a problem for him lately; he came into the day with a .214/.263/.315 line overall in his previous 20 games and 76 plate appearances.
