    DET β€’ 3B-2B β€’ #

Zach McKinstry went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and a run scored as the Tigers took the opener of their three-game series against the Orioles in Baltimore.

McKinstry roped a one-out triple into the right field corner off of left-hander Cade Povich in the second inning and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wenceel Perez. He also tripled to left field in the fifth inning, but the Tigers couldn’t cash him in that time. He’s now tied with Jarren Duran for the MLB lead with seven three-baggers on the season. He continues to excel in a utility role for the Tigers, slashing .276/.361/.438 with three homers, 19 RBI and five stolen bases.

    Recap

Jack Flaherty was tagged for three homers and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Reds on Saturday.

Flaherty opened with three scoreless frames today before giving up a solo homer to Elly De La Cruz in the fourth and a grand slam to Tyler Stephenson as part of a six-run fifth. Spencer Steer also took him deep in the inning. Coming into this one, Flaherty had allowed a total of two homers and six runs in his previous five starts combined. He also walked five today, topping his previous season high by two. The loss took his ERA from 3.41 to 4.03. He’ll try to shake it off before taking on the Rays next week.

    Recap

Javier BΓ‘ez was able to finish Saturday’s game in spite of an apparent shoulder injury suffered on a slide into home in the third inning.

BΓ‘ez, who was out on the play, tried a swim move with his left shoulder and seemed to be in pain afterwards, but he came out for the fourth and finished the game, even as the Reds turned it into an 11-1 blowout. Odds are this will prove to be nothing, but it seemed worth a mention anyway. BΓ‘ez went 0-for-3 with a walk in the contest.

Spencer Torkelson is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Saturday afternoon’s showdown against the Reds.

The 25-year-old slugger has cooled considerably over the past few weeks, slashing .209/.320/.372 with two homers, five RBI and a 12/6 K/BB ratio over 50 plate appearances in his last 12 games. Colt Keith will start in his place at first base and will bat sixth for the Tigers against Reds’ right-hander Brady Singer on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park.

    Recap

Jorge Polanco doubled and homered in a 7-2 win for the Mariners on Friday over the Guardians.

Polanco turned on an offering from Kolby Allard to give the Mariners a 6-2 lead. It’s the 11th homer of the season, and it’s encouraging to see him drive the ball from the right side after struggling β€” and at times not playing β€” against southpaws in 2025. Polanco is now hitting .266/.312/.464 on the season with 33 RBI. The majority of that damage was done much earlier in the year, however, as he’s hit just two homers since the start of May.

Jorge Polanco is hitting fifth and playing second base against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Polanco has been limited to designated hitter duties for the majority of the 2025 campaign, and while he was signed to play third for the Mariners this offseason, the 31-year-old will handle his β€˜old’ position for Wednesday’s finale in Arizona. Dylan Moore is in right field, and Cole Young opens the contest on the bench.

    Recap

Jorge Polanco went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI on Sunday as the Mariners defeated the Angels in Los Angeles.

The 31-year-old infielder smacked a game-tying single into center field off of Tyler Anderson in the fifth inning that made it a 2-2 game. With his two-hit attack, Polanco is now slashing .259/.306/.476 with 10 homers, 31 RBI and two stolen bases over 184 plate appearances in his first 52 ballgames.
