Soto’s two-run shot off Jorge Alcala ended a 13-game drought for him. He entered the day in a 1-for-13 slump that had dropped his OPS under .800 to .794.

That’d seem to set up Raley to return right after the All-Star break if things go well. Raley had a 2.80 ERA in 54 2/3 innings for the Mets in 2023 and pitched seven scoreless innings last year before getting hurt, so he could turn into a key piece of the pen if he’s right.

The second single was a bunt by Nolan Gorman, putting the tying run on second base and the go-ahead run on first. Megill, though, fanned Jordan Walker, Victor Scott II and Masyn Winn afterwards. It’s the first time since Apr. 2 that he’s struck out three in an inning.

Canning gave up four hits, walked five and struck out two. The 29-year-old right-hander was done in by free passes as he allowed walks that ultimately came around to score in the second, third and fifth innings. Canning walked two in the fifth inning and was removed from the game, but both runners scored on Jonathan Aranda’s double. He’s allowed 10 runs in his last two starts and walked at least four batters in three of his last five starts. It doesn’t get easier for Canning as he’s lined up to face the Phillies on the road next weekend.

Anthony’s first MLB homer came off Logan Gilbert in the first inning. The 21-year-old went hitless for the remainder of the contest, and he’s hitting just .095 since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester. Still, this was a reminder that Anthony possesses immense talent, and it seems likely that more balls are going to find their way over the fence in the coming days/weeks.

Whether he’s ready or not, Anthony is Boston’s de factor face of the franchise in the wake of the club’s stunning decision to jettison slugger Rafael Devers to San Francisco on Sunday night. The 21-year-old prodigy has been moved up to the third spot for Monday’s series opener in Seattle after hitting fifth in four consecutive games to open his big-league career. It’s a significant development from a fantasy perspective as the move should lead to an uptick in run-producing opportunities as the Red Sox’ primary middle-of-the-order threat.
