The homer off lefty Joe La Sorsa went just 330 feet, but he hit to the perfect spot down the right field line. It was his first homer in 75 plate appearances this season, and it doubled his RBI total for the year. Thomas probably ought to be limited to starts against lefties for the most part, but given his hot start here since coming off the IL — he also reached three times on Monday before sitting Tuesday — regular playing time is a possibility.

Bieber was sent for a follow-up exam with Dr. Keith Meister who performed his Tommy John surgery after he experienced renewed soreness following a bullpen session in early June. Fortunately, the discomfort that he is dealing with is normal and not structural. The Guardians don’t have a plan yet for when he’ll resume throwing, but it’s certainly an encouraging development.

Recent testing revealed that his fractured tibia hadn’t healed quite as well as anticipated, so the Mets will back off of his rehab to give him some more time to recover. He will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a couple of weeks before undergoing additional imaging to see how it has progressed. At this stage, there’s no clear timeline for when he may be able to rejoin the Mets.

Bochy elaborated, “It’s just a little sore. We don’t think it’s serious or anything. He could play tomorrow. We’ll see. But more likely, he’ll get a day off to see if we can get that calmed down.” It sounds like unless Carter wakes up feeling significantly worse on Saturday that he’s not going to be heading for any additional testing and should be able to return to action before the weekend is through.
