Nootbaar is back in left field and batting seventh on Tuesday night after missing a pair of contests due to intercostal soreness in the area of his ribs. The 27-year-old was just starting to really heat up last week, so we’ll see if he can get back on track following the brief two-game layoff.

The positive news here for the Cardinals, and fantasy managers, is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and it sounds like Arenado will avoid a trip to the injured list. The 34-year-old, who is officially day-to-day for now, is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. He figures to get some additional time off to hopefully put the issue to bed. It’ll be Nolan Gorman handling the hot corner in his absence.

Arenado has been playing through a right finger issue that cropped up over the weekend when he jammed it on the basepaths. The 34-year-old defensive wizard will get Tuesday’s game off to rest and recover with Nolan Gorman taking over at the hot corner for the second straight game. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.

Things unraveled quickly on Fedde in the fifth inning as the Pirates tagged him for six runs on seven hits in the disastrous frame. He failed to record a strikeout over five innings and walked three batters. It was the third time this season that he’s allowed at least seven earned runs with a pair of those outings coming in the last week. He’ll square off against the Cubs’ high-powered lineup on Sunday at Wrigley Field.

It’ll likely wind up being a brief stint for McKinney in the big leagues with Evan Carter on the bereavement list until Friday’s game against the Padres. The 30-year-old journeyman outfielder latched on with Texas back in late May on a minor league deal as emergency depth. He’s gotten into 321 games between seven different organizations dating back to 2018.

The Mets are treating Freddy Peralta like he’s a left-hander by starting Marte and dropping Nimmo from his usual second spot in the lineup, and it’s not a bad idea; Peralta has reverse splits in his career. Nimmo is also 0-for-8 against him lifetime. It’s Marte’s first start against a righty since Mark Vientos came off the injured list.

With Bo Bichette (knee) banged up, the Blue Jays needed an extra infielder, so Clase will head down to make room. Even though Clase was playing more often than Myles Straw, Straw has no minor league options left, which meant he had to remain on the roster. Clase is hitting .210/.288/.300 in 112 plate appearances this year with two home runs and three steals.
