Nootbaar missed a couple of games with an intercostal region issue, but the outfielder is feeling well enough to roam the outfield and hit in the middle of the St. Louis lineup.

The 23-year-old outfielder has been shelved since June 25 due to appendicitis. He’ll remain there through the weekend before being re-evaluated. Walker is eligible to return from the injured list on Wednesday and it sounds like that’s when he could rejoin the Cardinals.

Arenado has picked up his offensive game in the month of June. The 34-year-old third baseman is hitting .274 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 24 June games. Arenado has hit .272 and .266 in his last two full seasons so we should expect his .246 average this year to continue to pick up.

Burleson’s home run was No. 10 for him on the year. The 26-year-old outfielder hit a two-run shot off Luis Ortiz in the third inning. Burleson got off to a slow start this year, but has heated up with a .337 average, six home runs and 19 RBI in 24 games in the month of June. As long as he keeps hitting, the Cardinals won’t be rotating him out of the lineup as they did earlier this year.

The Yankees were probably better off with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL. Domínguez has started just three of the team’s last six games, none of them consecutively. Worse, two of those, including today, were against lefties, and the switch-hitter is batting just .194/.289/.306 against them, compared to .277/.360/.432 against righties. He had a big game Wednesday, going 4-for-5, in his only start against a righty all week; he sat against them both Tuesday and Friday. The Yankees had enough trouble finding at-bats for everyone before Stanton returned, and starting Domínguez, Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice all about half of the time isn’t doing anyone any good, except for maybe the Blue Jays and Rays.

The 25-year-old outfielder was seeing limited action during this time with the Jays, so he’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level instead of languishing on the bench. Will Wagner was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move on Saturday.

Ward was able to smack his 20th homer of the season with a two-run shot off Jake Irvin. Four of those homers have come in June, but he’s hit just .173 with a .630 OPS over his 85 at-bats during the month. Ward runs hot and cold as much as any player in the American League, and you just never know what you’re going to get from week-to-week.
