Toglia is hitting .324/.366/.676 with three homers and 14 RBI in nine games since being sent down by the Rockies and seems to be well on his way to earning another opportunity. After all, as bad as Toglia was in hitting .190/.260/.342 in the majors this season, that’s still considerably better than what the Rockies have gotten from their other first basemen. They have a combined line of .167/.189/.283 in 74 plate appearances.

The 24-year-old southpaw had been pitching for the Mississippi Mud Monsters in the independent Frontier League where he registered a 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 29/3 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings in his nine appearances. He’ll add bullpen depth in the minor leagues for the Rockies.

The Rockies were actually up by three runs when Márquez left tonight, only to end up losing 12-4. Márquez now has a 3.54 ERA and a 27/6 K/BB over 28 innings in his last two starts. If he can maintain this, contenders will be after him at the deadline. He’ll face the Nationals next.

McMahon has been an utter disaster with men on base this season — he entered the night with 19 RBI in 268 plate appearances and seven of his eight homers had been solo shots — so it was nice to see him knock in runners twice tonight. It’s just his third multi-RBI game of the year, and it’s his first with three RBI since July 30 of last year. Contrast that with fellow NL West third baseman Eugenio Suárez, who has nine three-RBI games this season and actually delivered three in a row last month.

Tellez got the Mariners on the board with a solo homer off Gavin Williams in the fourth inning. It’s the 11th roundtripper of the season for the veteran first baseman, and his double was just his fifth. Tellez certainly has the raw power to hit the ball over the fence, but it’s hard to trust him as a one-tool player playing in a home park that suppresses that tool.

Naylor tied the game at 1-1 with a solo blast in the second off Stephen Kolek. His second RBI of the game and 47th of the season with a sac fly in the fifth; also off Kolek. Naylor’s first season with the Diamondbacks has been a successful one as seen in nine homers along with a slash of .302/.356/.478.

Vaughn will remain in the minors and report to Triple-A Nashville. If he starts tearing it up there, perhaps the Brewers would consider making some room for him by playing Christian Yelich in the outfield, but they’ll cross that bridge when they come to it. Vaughn hit just .189/.218/.314 in 48 games for the White Sox before being demoted, though his exit velocity numbers were actually a little better than his career norms. He’d hit .211/.328/.351 in 15 games for Triple-A Charlotte. Given his current $5.85 million salary, he’ll need to experience a real breakthrough to avoid being non-tendered this winter.
