14 of the 20 balls in play against Brown tonight were hard hit and most of them were in the air. He also wound up with just three strikeouts. The loss leaves him 4-6 with a 6.13 ERA and provides a pretty definitive answer as to who should be dropped from the Cubs’ rotation to make room for Shota Imanaga.

Cabrera passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 28-year-old lefty compiled a calamitous 8.68 ERA across 9 1/3 innings (nine appearances) for the Cubs. He’ll presumably stick around as emergency organizational depth, but does have the ability to refuse the outright assignment and elect free agency.

McCann provides Arizona with a more experienced veteran backup while Gabriel Moreno is on the injured list recovering from a fractured finger. The 35-year-old veteran got into 65 games last year for the Orioles in a backup role and has appeared in 917 big-league contests since 2014. He’ll split the catching duties for the Diamondbacks with Jose Herrera for the next couple weeks.
