Murphy is back behind the dish for Monday’s showdown against the Mets at Citi Field after rookie Drake Baldwin started both games over the weekend against the Marlins. The 30-year-old backstop continues to cede additional time to Baldwin, who has been vastly superior from an offensive production standpoint.

The steal was Acuña’s third in 10 games after he attempted none in his first 19 games back from a torn ACL. He’s given the Braves four straight two-hit games, and he’s scored a run in seven straight games, which is pretty impressive given that the Braves have only two other guys (Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin) hitting right now.

Raisel Iglesias had the Braves’ previous save on May 16. The team had just one ninth-inning save chance in 30 games since, and that was blown by Iglesias on June 5, costing him his job and elevating Lee. However, it appeared over the weekend that Iglesias might be back closing again, as Lee served as a setup man Saturday. Nevertheless, the Braves arranged things for Lee to close tonight. Iglesias started the eighth and gave up a pair of singles while recording two outs. With Juan Soto due up, the Braves brought in the left-handed Lee early, and Lee threw some of his hardest sliders of the season in striking Soto out. Just one of Lee’s 16 pitches tonight was a fastball, but it checked in at 96.7 mph versus Soto. That’s 2.9 mph harder than his season average. Anyway, it looks like Lee is still a viable candidate for saves for now.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Amaya is targeting around the All-Star break for a potential return. The 26-year-old backstop landed on the shelf back in late May with an oblique strain that was expected to keep him sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks.

McCann provides Arizona with a more experienced veteran backup while Gabriel Moreno is on the injured list recovering from a fractured finger. The 35-year-old veteran got into 65 games last year for the Orioles in a backup role and has appeared in 917 big-league contests since 2014. He’ll split the catching duties for the Diamondbacks with Jose Herrera for the next couple weeks.

Garcia got into a pair of games for Arizona earlier this month, going 0-for-4 at the dish, while Gabriel Moreno dealt with injuries. The well-traveled backstop has been cut loose with the Diamondbacks opting to roll with more experienced veteran James McCann as part of their catching tandem with Moreno on the shelf.
