    Ronald Acuña Jr.

    ATL • RF • #

Ronald Acuña Jr. went 2-for-5 with a homer and a walk Monday to lead the Braves past the Mets 3-2.

The steal was Acuña’s third in 10 games after he attempted none in his first 19 games back from a torn ACL. He’s given the Braves four straight two-hit games, and he’s scored a run in seven straight games, which is pretty impressive given that the Braves have only two other guys (Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin) hitting right now.

Braves signed RHP John Brebbia to a minor league contract.

Brebbia was just cut loose by the Tigers after amassing a 7.71 ERA in 18 2/3 innings. He’ll probably needs to regain some lost velocity if he’s going to help in the Braves pen later this season.

    Recap

Spencer Schwellenbach held the Mets to two runs and four hits over seven innings to earn a victory Monday.

Schwellenbach got just five missed swings tonight, with three of those coming on the seven splitters he threw. Still, it all worked out fine. The only damage came on Juan Soto’s homer in the sixth. Schwellenbach completed seven innings for the eighth time this season. He’s gone at least six in all but two of his 16 starts. He’s slated to face the Phillies next.

    Recap

Dylan Lee retired all four batters he faced, striking out two of them, to earn the Braves’ first save in over a month Monday against the Mets.

Raisel Iglesias had the Braves’ previous save on May 16. The team had just one ninth-inning save chance in 30 games since, and that was blown by Iglesias on June 5, costing him his job and elevating Lee. However, it appeared over the weekend that Iglesias might be back closing again, as Lee served as a setup man Saturday. Nevertheless, the Braves arranged things for Lee to close tonight. Iglesias started the eighth and gave up a pair of singles while recording two outs. With Juan Soto due up, the Braves brought in the left-handed Lee early, and Lee threw some of his hardest sliders of the season in striking Soto out. Just one of Lee’s 16 pitches tonight was a fastball, but it checked in at 96.7 mph versus Soto. That’s 2.9 mph harder than his season average. Anyway, it looks like Lee is still a viable candidate for saves for now.

Diamondbacks placed OF Corbin Carroll on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 19, with a fractured left wrist.

It’s only a chip fracture, so perhaps Carroll will be able to return right after the break. The Diamondbacks, though, haven’t put out any timetable yet. They’ll likely give Carroll’s playing time to the newly recalled Jake McCarthy and Tim Tawa. Maybe Pavin Smith will see more time against lefties with Randal Grichuk starting in right field instead of the DH spot.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Corbin Carroll (hand) is headed to the injured list with a fractured left wrist.

Not good. The Diamondbacks are seeking multiple medical opinions after Carroll underwent an MRI and CT scan on Monday that revealed a chip fracture in his left wrist. There is no timetable for his return at the moment, but fantasy managers should prepare for an extended absence. It’s a devastating blow to Arizona’s offense as he’s been their primary top-of-the-order catalyst this season with 20 homers and 10 steals through 72 games. It’ll be Jake McCarthy coming up from Triple-A Reno to fill his roster spot, presumably to platoon with Randal Grichuk in right field.

    Recap

Aaron Judge walloped his 28th home run of the season on Monday in a loss to the Reds.

Judge supplied New York’s lone run of the contest when he took Reds starter Nick Lodolo deep to left field with a colossal 398-foot solo shot in the opening frame. His 28th big fly puts him back within shouting distance of Mariners backstop Cal Raleigh, who sits atop the big-league home run leaderboard with 31 round-trippers entering Monday night.
