Schanuel laid off an offering from Hoby Milner with the ducks full to walk in a run and give the Angels the win. The 23-year-old has been so-so in 2025 for the Angels with a slash of .261/.354/.391, and he’s now driven in 36 runs over the first 90 games of the campaign. He helps the Angels a lot more than he helps fantasy teams.

In a battle of players who don’t capitalize the first letters of their last names, d’Arnaud took Jacob deGrom deep in the second inning to give the Angels a 3-2 lead. He also doubled in a run in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. The first season with the Halos for d’Arnaud has been a mixed bag at best, as he’s slashing .220/.268/.394 with five homers and 15 RBI.

In a battle of All-Star hurlers, both Kikuchi and Jacob deGrom were not terribly effective. They combined to go 10 innings while allowing seven runs, and both struggled early. In Kikuchi’s case, he allowed a two-run homer to Corey Seager in first, and two more runs were charted to the southpaw in the third. Kikuchi still has a strong 3.02 ERA, and he’ll get another chance to lower that number against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Mederos gets the call to join Los Angeles’ relief corps prior to Monday’s series opener against the Rangers with veteran Hunter Strickland hitting the shelf with shoulder inflammation. The 24-year-old righty has made one relief appearance this season in the big leagues.

Vaughn hit a ball 409 feet to left to make a spectacular first impression for his new team. He also walked and scored a second run before, oddly, being pinch-hit for by Jake Bauers with a righty on the mound in the seventh (oddly because Vaughn got the nod over Bauers against a righty in the first place). The homer was Vaughn’s sixth in 49 major league games this season. He’ll definitely be back in there tomorrow with the Dodgers starting a lefty.

Gonzalez crushed a Ryan Rolison pitch 111.1 mph over the Green Monster and out of Fenway Park, and his other two balls in play were 106.9 mph and 103.6 mph. He has a ridiculous 59.6% hard-hit rate this season; the only hitter with 50 plate appearances doing better is Shohei Ohtani at 60.2%. Also, his strikeout rate is also down to 23.6% from 26.9% in his first season with the Red Sox and 36.0% during his White Sox career. He certainly wouldn’t maintain his current .923 OPS while playing regularly against righties, but he deserves a shot to show what he can do outside of a platoon role.

Hernández has seen an uptick in playing time since Max Muncy hit the injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee, but he’s going to miss a couple weeks. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Hernández has been dealing with the issue in his non-throwing elbow for nearly a month. The versatile 33-year-old figures to return at some point in the early stages of the second half.
