Schanuel demolished an 0-1 fastball from Ryan Gusto for a 390-foot (100.5 mph EV) three-run blast in the fifth inning that gave the Angels a 5-4 advantage. It would be short lived. Schanuel also chipped in a run-scoring single in the seventh inning that pulled the Halos to within two at 8-6. With his three-hit attack, the 23-year-old first baseman is now hitting a solid .283/.372/.412 with six long balls and 30 RBI on the season.

The veteran right-hander struck out two batters on the afternoon while issuing one base on balls. He kept the Astros off the board completely through the first three innings, but they struck for four runs in the fourth inning including a pair of solo homers from Mauricio Dubón and Jeremy Pena. Hendricks returned for the sixth where he issued a leadoff walk before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and that run ultimately came around to score as well. Hendricks got four swings and misses on 69 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll carry a 4.83 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and a 55/23 K/BB ratio (82 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Nationals.

Goldschmidt figures to get plenty of chances this week with the Yankees set to face at least two left-handers, including Cincinnati southpaw Nick Lodolo on Monday night. The 37-year-old sat both games over the weekend against the Orioles after making four straight starts. It’ll be Ben Rice on the bench with Giancarlo Stanton occupying the DH spot.

Harper was placed on the IL with wrist inflammation on June 7, so it’s good to see him taking swings just two weeks later. He is set to hit in the cage at some point this week, after which he could potentially begin a rehab assignment. All of which means that we might see Harper back in Philadelphia in just a couple of weeks.
