Young gets the nod to replace an injured Zach Eflin (back) in Baltimore’s rotation and figures to take the ball at some point later this week, most likely on Friday against Atlanta. The 26-year-old righty has pitched well at the Triple-A level, but has struggled to an inflated 7.11 ERA and 11/9 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (three starts) this season in the big leagues. He’s a risky streaming option despite his prospect pedigree.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

Rodriguez remains without a clear timetable to make it back to Baltimore’s rotation, but the club has expressed optimism that he’ll pitch at some point this season. The 25-year-old righty, who is working his way back from a lat strain that cropped up during spring training, will be racing the clock to make it back since he’ll need a couple weeks of rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before he’s activated.

Westburg was optimistic that he would return for Tuesday’s showdown in Texas, but the Orioles are apparently going to give him another day off. The 26-year-old infielder has been out of the lineup for four consecutive games, and seven of the last nine overall, as he continues to manage an ongoing left index finger issue. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías taking over at third base again in his absence.
