Westburg was optimistic that he would return for Tuesday’s showdown in Texas, but the Orioles are apparently going to give him another day off. The 26-year-old infielder has been out of the lineup for four consecutive games, and seven of the last nine overall, as he continues to manage an ongoing left index finger issue. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías taking over at third base again in his absence.

Sanchez victimized Rangers’ right-hander Jacob deGrom for his 381-foot (105.0 mph EV) two-run shot in the fourth inning, pulling the Orioles to within a run at 3-2. That would be as close as they would get. The 32-year-old backstop finished the night 1-for-3 and is now hitting .259/.330/.469 with five homers and 24 RBI in 91 plate appearances on the season.

The 26-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. All of the scoring done against him came in the third inning as Adolis Garcia delivered a two-run single and Jonah Heim added an RBI knock. Young got eight swings and misses on 71 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll bring a miserable 7.02 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and a 15/11 K/BB ratio (16 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Braves.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

The homer off Max Fried was his first against a lefty this season. It was also a rare center field blast for a guy who typically has to pull the ball to get it over the fence. Gimenez, who came into the day right on the Mendoza Line (40-for-200 this season), is now batting .207/.293/.315.

There’s no room for Walton with New York’s overcrowded infield mix so they’ve decided to ship him to the division-rival Phillies where he’ll have more of an opportunity to get back to the big leagues. The 31-year-old utility specialist has only appeared in just nine major-league games over the last three years. He’s merely organizational fodder at this juncture of his career.
