Stallings joins Baltimore’s injury-depleted catching mix to pair with Gary Sánchez ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Rangers. The well-traveled 35-year-old latched on last week with the Orioles on a minor league pact and will get his chance following a back injury to Chadwick Tromp. He was cut loose earlier this month by the Rockies after hitting .143 (12-for-84) over 28 games this season. He’s appeared in 561 contests in the big leagues dating back to 2016.

That timetable doesn’t leave much time at all for Mateo to make it back this season. There’s a chance he’s ready to return in late August, but that would be a best-case scenario without any setbacks. The versatile 30-year-old suffered the injury last weekend while playing in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Norfolk.

Rodriguez remains without a clear timetable to make it back to Baltimore’s rotation, but the club has expressed optimism that he’ll pitch at some point this season. The 25-year-old righty, who is working his way back from a lat strain that cropped up during spring training, will be racing the clock to make it back since he’ll need a couple weeks of rehab starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before he’s activated.

Westburg was optimistic that he would return for Tuesday’s showdown in Texas, but the Orioles are apparently going to give him another day off. The 26-year-old infielder has been out of the lineup for four consecutive games, and seven of the last nine overall, as he continues to manage an ongoing left index finger issue. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías taking over at third base again in his absence.

Colorado is going to roll with veteran Austin Nola as the primary caddy for starter Hunter Goodman moving forward. The 26-year-old backstop will head back to the minors to wait for another opportunity at the highest level.

This certainly qualifies as a surprise since MLB.com’s Thomas Harding reported on Monday that veteran catcher Austin Nola was being called up from Triple-A, which seemed to signal that Goodman was headed to the injured list. The 25-year-old backstop will handle the catching duties on Tuesday night following a four-game absence due to a hamstring issue.
