The 27-year-old infielder will return to add depth to the Red Sox’ infield for at least a couple of days while Marcelo Mayer is away on bereavement leave. Sogard will start at third base and bat ninth for the Red Sox for Friday nights’ series opener against the Blue Jays.

No word yet on where that assignment will begin, but Yoshida is expected to need plenty of at-bats before he’s an option to join the Red Sox’ lineup. If all goes according to plan, it sounds like they’re hopeful he’ll be ready to return coming out of the All-Star break.

The 27-year-old right-hander is still shut down from throwing while dealing with a nerve-related issue in his neck. Nothing has changed in his prognosis, this was merely done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the return of Chris Murphy on Saturday.

The 27-year-old southpaw has finally worked his way back from last April’s Tommy John surgery and is ready to contribute to the Red Sox’ bullpen. Luis Guerrero (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move on Saturday to free up a spot in the team’s bullpen.

Naylor was removed from Friday night’s contest against the Diamondbacks due to stiffness in his neck. While it doesn’t sound like it’ll require a trip to the injured list, the Diamondbacks will take a cautious approach here and keep him out for an extra day. Pavin Smith will cover first base in his stead on Saturday afternoon and will bat third for the Diamondbacks.

Rivera was just designated for assignment and sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk in mid-June, but he’ll return as the Orioles are in need of extra infield depth with Jordan Westburg (finger) banged up. Rivera has hit just .232/.303/.275 with no home runs, three RBI and a 12/6 K/BB ratio in 76 plate appearances with the O’s this season.

It sounds like a precautionary exit. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on Naylor’s status this weekend since he missed time earlier this week with right shoulder soreness. He should be considered day-to-day for now. It would likely be Pavin Smith taking over at first base if he’s unable to get back in the lineup this weekend against the Marlins.
