De La Cruz’ stolen base was No. 22 on the season. While that’s well behind his stolen base pace last year when he stole 67 bases, De La Cruz has improved as a hitter this season. The 23-year-old superstar shortstop is hitting .279 with an .863 OPS in 82 games this year compared to .255 with an .809 OPS last year.

Steer entered play Friday with six home runs on the year. By the fifth inning, the 27-year-old infielder had nine home runs. Steer hit two solo shots off Dylan Cease and a two-run home run off reliever Yuki Matsui in the fifth inning. Steer still has just a .704 OPS on the year, but with the Reds moving on from Jeimer Candelario earlier this week, he seems entrenched as the first baseman for the rest of the season.

Martinez entered the ninth inning with a no-hit bid before allowing a double to Elias Diaz. The 34-year-old right-hander had allowed 17 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings over his first four starts in June, but the Reds allowed him to make two relief appearances between this start and his last start on June 19. Martinez appears to have figures something out as he threw three scoreless innings in those two relief appearances and had his best start of the season against the Padres on Friday. Martinez has a 4.12 ERA and 69/21 K/BB ratio in 94 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Red Sox on the road next week.

In a game that featured a lot of scoring early, it really calmed down late. That being said, Ohtani put the bookends on a tough night for Royals’ rookie starter Noah Cameron with a lead-off home run and then a triple to chase him from the game in the fifth inning. Ohtani scalded those two batted balls 110.4 mph and 112.4 mph respectively in what was another excellent game for the slugger. While not stealing bases nearly as often compared to his historic 2024 season, Ohtani is currently on pace for just under 60 home runs with a 1.045 OPS while he builds himself up as a pitcher.

Henderson’s home run was his ninth of the season. He hit a solo shot off position player Jose Caballero in the eighth inning with the game already well out of reach. Henderson isn’t having an incredible season after starting the year with a rib injury, but he’s still hitting .279 with a .797 OPS and 25 RBI on the year.
