Abel was Friday’s scheduled starter, but didn’t throw a pitch in the Phillies’ blowout victory. The 23-year-old right-hander went through his complete warm-up routine for the 7:15 start, but the Phillies opted to go with a bullpen game following a rain delay that lasted longer than two hours. Abel remained in the dugout for the duration of the game. It’s unclear at this time when he might pitch next.

Sánchez missed his career high in strikeouts by one and went without a walk for a third straight start. He’s allowed seven runs in 34 innings over five starts this month, taking his season ERA down to 2.79. He’s 14th in the majors in that category and 15th with 103 strikeouts. Next up for him is a start against the Padres on Tuesday.

Hays returned from the injured list on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This is likely their way of just easing him back into a full-time role. Rece Hinds will start in his place in right field and bat seventh for the Reds against Randy Vasquez and the Padres on Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati.

Winker has been shelved since the beginning of May due to a right oblique strain. He’s eligible to return from the injured list on July 4 and there’s a chance that if everything goes according to plan he could be ready at that time. It’s unclear who he would displace on the Mets’ current roster, but having too many quality options seems like a good problem for them to sort out.

The expectation is that the 26-year-old slugger will remain with the Saints through the weekend and as long as he avoids any setbacks, he would return to the Twins for the start of their series against the Marlins on Tuesday. Lewis has had a tumultuous and disappointing season to date, slashing just .202/.282/.303 with two homers and nine RBI in 110 plate appearances sandwiched between stints on the injured list.
