Hoskins will get a breather, as expected, during Sunday’s game with Jake Bauers handling the cold corner. The 32-year-old first baseman left Saturday’s game against the Marlins with left thumb discomfort and could wind up getting a few additional days off this coming week. He’s officially day-to-day for the moment.

Woodruff will finally make his long-awaited season debut on Sunday afternoon against the Marlins at loanDepot park after numerous setbacks delayed his return from shoulder surgery. The primary concern with any pitcher coming back from a shoulder procedure is that the stuff usually doesn’t get all the way back to pre-surgery levels. However, Woodruff’s velocity has been on point in recent rehab outings at the Triple-A level. He’s unlikely to reclaim fantasy ace status again, but he could be a useful contributor for fantasy managers over the final three months of the season.

Patrick winds up losing his spot in Milwaukee’s rotation to facilitate former ace Brandon Woodruff’s return from the injured list. The 26-year-old rookie right-hander has held his own this season in his first shot in the big leagues, compiling a respectable 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 95/30 K/BB ratio across 94 2/3 innings (19 appearances, 18 starts). It wouldn’t be shocking to see him get another chance at some point in the second half.

He also singled. He could have added to the Tigers’ margin for error in the ninth, but up with the bases loaded and one out, he grounded into a double play against Tim Herrin. The homer off Logan Allen was Torkelson’s third in five games this month and 20th overall.

Alonso had a two-run homer off Carlos Rodón in the fifth and then a three-run shot off Jayvien Sandridge that pretty much put the game away in the seventh. It’s his 24th career two-homer game and 12th with five RBI. He’s back up third in the majors with 73 RBI; both he and Eugenio Suárez are two behind Seiya Suzuki and one back of Cal Raleigh.
