Riley Greene went 2-for-4 and clobbered a two-run homer on Tuesday as the Tigers triumphed over the Pirates in Motown.

Greene victimized Pirates’ right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski in the seventh inning, demolishing a 3-2 slider for a 436-foot (113.7 mph EV) two-run blast — Greene’s longest home run of the season. He also singled in the sixth inning and scored on an RBI triple off the bat of Wenceel Perez. With his two-hit attack, the 24-year-old outfielder is now slashing .278/.333/.502 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI.

Wednesday’s game between the Pirates and Tigers has been postponed due to inclement weather.

There was almost zero path to get this contest in based on the forecast around Detroit, which called for some heavy rain later this evening. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Thursday instead with Tigers ace Tarik Skubal facing Andrew Heaney in the front-end of the twin bill. It’ll be Paul Skenes taking the ball during the nightcap affair.

Kerry Carpenter is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Pirates.

Carpenter finds himself on the bench for the third straight contest with lefty Andrew Heaney taking the ball for Pittsburgh. He also took a seat with Bailey Falter toeing the rubber on Tuesday and Reds southpaw Wade Miley drawing Sunday’s starting assignment. It’ll be Wenceel Pérez handling right field for the third consecutive game.

Javier Báez went 3-for-4 and belted a pair of solo home runs on Tuesday, powering the Tigers to a 7-3 victory over the visiting Pirates.

Báez, on the day that he celebrated 10 years of service time in the major leagues, celebrated by crushing a 407-foot (100.5 mph EV) solo shot off of Bailey Falter in the fifth inning that tied the game at 3-3. He then delivered an encore performance in the seventh with a 410-foot (102.2 mph EV) blast off of Carmen Mlodzinski that extended the Tigers’ advantage to 5-3. With his three-hit night, the versatile 32-year-old is now hitting .289/.324/.474 with nine long balls, 35 RBI and one stolen base on the season.

Jonatan Clase (knee) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

The Blue Jays will be without Clase and Myles Straw (knee) due to injury, at least to begin the game. Clase is day-to-day, and Davis Schneider will be the starting left fielder.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that this “may finally be the time” for the Angels to trade Taylor Ward.

As Feinsand notes, the Angels “have been hesitant to trade Ward during the past two years,” but he has a near $8 million salary and only one more year of club control, so this could finally be the time. Ward has 18 home runs in his first 69 games this season while also driving in 47 runs with a .741 OPS. He ranks in the 86th percentile in barrel rate and the 87th percentile in chase rate this season, and really turned his year around after a slow start. Feinsand lists the Guardians, Padres, Rays and Royals as potential trade partners.

Bubba Chandler allowed one run on five hits in four innings for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Most importantly, Chandler walked one after his struggles with command before. Still, throwing only 42 of 79 pitches for strikes is not ideal. He struck out three and is still too good to be staying at Triple-A. We’re not sure what the Pirates are asking him to work out in Triple-A, but he can likely do that in MLB games as well.
