Goodman, returning to the lineup Tuesday, took Colton Gordon deep for a solo homer in the second inning to put the Rockies on the board. He then drew a walk to lead off the third and scored on a sacrifice fly. Goodman later took Josh Hader deep for his second solo homer to cut the Astros lead to one in the ninth. The 25-year-old catcher is up to 16 homers and 50 RBI while slashing .290/.337/.532 across 315 plate appearances.

Dollander tossed a clean first inning, then gave up a run on three hits in the second. He was roughed up in the third, giving up a run on a walk, hit, and groundout before loading the bases for Victor Caratini, who took him deep for a grand slam. Dollander allowed one more baserunner with one out in the third and was relieved at 69 pitches. The 23-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 6.65 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and a 50/29 K/BB ratio across 65 innings. He’ll take on the White Sox in Colorado on Sunday.

It’s a positive sign that Tovar is making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.

McCarthy took Hayden Birdsong deep for a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Diamondbacks the lead. He now has a hit in six straight games since he was recalled from Triple-A. The 27-year-old outfielder has started every game at right field over the last week in Corbin Carroll’s absence.

The Angels finally broke through and snapped a scoreless tie as Mike Trout and Jo Adell smacked doubles off of Dylan Lee in the eighth inning. Adell then came around to score on Jorge Soler’s two-run double. The 26-year-old outfielder also walked and struck out twice in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-4. He has been sizzling at the plate over the past month and is now slashing .243/.318/.498 with 18 homers, 44 RBI and three stolen bases on the season.
