The Red Sox offense is stuck in a deep, deep slump. It turns out that trading your best hitter can do that to a club. Anthony has been at the center of these team-wide struggles with a .128 batting average 47 at-bats into his major league career. Yet, it does feel a bit unfair that his club traded the face of their franchise then decided to insert their 21-year-old rookie into the third spot in the order to theoretically replace him. Good times will be ahead for Anthony, it’s just hard to figure when it will click with all the pressure on him currently.

No word yet on where that assignment will begin, but Yoshida is expected to need plenty of at-bats before he’s an option to join the Red Sox’ lineup. If all goes according to plan, it sounds like they’re hopeful he’ll be ready to return coming out of the All-Star break.

The 27-year-old right-hander is still shut down from throwing while dealing with a nerve-related issue in his neck. Nothing has changed in his prognosis, this was merely done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the return of Chris Murphy on Saturday.

The 27-year-old southpaw has finally worked his way back from last April’s Tommy John surgery and is ready to contribute to the Red Sox’ bullpen. Luis Guerrero (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move on Saturday to free up a spot in the team’s bullpen.

He also robbed what might have been a homer in the second inning, yet the Tigers still pinch-hit for him against a lefty with an 8-4 in the eighth. Carpenter has been pretty quiet since his three-homer game against the White Sox on June 2, going 10-for-59 with two homers and a 17/0 K/BB ratio. He’s never been much for walks, but his 60/7 K/BB in 277 plate appearances this season is atrocious. He finished at 75/22 in 296 plate appearances last year.

The 23-year-old outfielder has been shelved since June 25 due to appendicitis. He’ll remain there through the weekend before being re-evaluated. Walker is eligible to return from the injured list on Wednesday and it sounds like that’s when he could rejoin the Cardinals.

It was already 11-0 Phillies by the time Acuna was due for his second at-bat in the bottom of the third inning on Friday. The Braves decided to throw in the towel at that point and give the 27-year-old superstar outfielder the rest of the night off. Stuart Fairchild came off the bench and hit two doubles, which were the Braves’ only extra-base hits on the night. Acuna should be back in the lineup for Atlanta’s next game on Saturday.
