McMahon’s long ball was the extent of the damage done against Reds’ starter Chase Burns, but still put the Rockies in position to pull this game out late against Cincinnati’s bullpen. The homer was his 13th of the season in what’s been an otherwise disappointing season for the veteran third baseman.

Converting his first save since April 6th, Vodnik had to work around some trouble here. He allowed a lead-off double to Santiago Espinal and intentionally walked Elly De La Cruz soon thereafter. Yet, he struck out the other three batters he faced with fastballs that topped out at 101.4 mph to finish off this save.

Is road-Márquez back? He’s allowed three or fewer runs in six straight starts away from Coors Field. In this start, his knuckle-curve was dominant forcing seven swings-and-misses and very little hard contact while corking as his primary pitch. He was especially good at spotting it right on the low-and-away corner against right-handed batters. We’re not ready to trust yet, but certainly noticing.

There haven’t been any rumblings about a return trip to the injured list for the 29-year-old infielder, and if it hasn’t happened by now it probably isn’t going to before the All-Star break. Kyle Farmer will start in his place at second base and will bat eighth for the Rockies against Reds’ rookie right-hander Chase Burns on Friday evening in Cincinnati.

Bregman made an instant impact for Boston in his first game action in nearly six weeks. The 31-year-old third baseman’s return coincides with an extended hot streak for the Red Sox, who no longer look like potential sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.

Arenado has been battling through lingering shoulder and finger issues recently, so the All-Star break comes at an opportune time. The 34-year-old defensive wizard figures to sit out St. Louis’ final two first-half games this weekend against Atlanta. It’ll be Nolan Gorman and Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner.

No word yet on the severity of the issue or how much time the 28-year-old slugger may stand to miss (if any). Expect more clarity on his status prior to Saturday’s contest against the Cardinals.
