Alcantara had faced the minimum through three scoreless innings before giving up three runs on three hits and two walks before recording an out in the fourth. Two hits and a walk in the sixth made it four runs for the Nationals before Alcantara’s day was done 87 pitches. It wasn’t the sharpest day for the 29-year-old right-hander as he walked four and struck out just one batter. Miami did give him the run support to come away with the win. He’ll take on the Diamondbacks in Miami on Thursday.

We assume Myers will return as the primary center fielder, though he has some new competition there in the form of Victor Mesa Jr. Both should play plenty, though. Myers hit .337/.375/.482 in 29 games before going on the IL with an oblique strain, so he definitely deserves to be in the lineup as often as he can handle.

Mervis had an option remaining, but the Marlins will either trade him or expose him to waivers. We’re not sure anyone will be eager to add him. He did have seven homers in 134 plate appearances, good for second place on the ballclub, but he hit just .175/.254/.383 with 50 strikeouts and unimpressive exit velocity numbers. He seems like a Triple-A guy right now. The Marlins will likely use Eric Wagaman at first now, since he was about to lose outfield playing time with Dane Myers back.

It’s unfortunate that this comes so soon after the three-error inning, but Simon wasn’t long for the majors regardless. It’s just a little surprising that he’s being DFA’d in favor of Jack Winkler instead of simply being sent down once Xavier Edwards returns. Simon, 25, hit .234/.327/.277 in 56 plate appearances for the Marlins.
