Miller got the final out in the eighth to clean up a jam, and then breezed through the ninth to pick up his 10th save of the season. It’s a nice rebound from his struggles against the Marlins on Saturday, and it lowers his ERA to a very solid 2.10. Assuming he’s not dealt at the deadline, it’s probably safe to say that Miller is going to remain the closer for the D-backs for the foreseeable future.

According to D’Agostino, “Nelson has been dealing with soreness on the days after his outings, seemingly more than is usual... He can be seen in the clubhouse after throwing bullpens and after games with a large ice pack wrapped around his arm.” That soreness could be mostly the result of Nelson moving in and out of the rotation and having to transition between roles; however, with all the injuries Arizona has dealt with this season, they are right to be cautious with Nelson. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Nelson “had already exceeded his [pitch] limit” when he was removed from the game on Monday, which means his limit was likely around 80-85 pitches. That may be a number that the Diamondbacks keep him near for the next few starts.

Suárez gave the D-backs some cushion with a solo shot in the eighth inning to extend Arizona’s lead to 4-2. The 33-year-old bopper now has 26 homers on the season, and he’s up to 69 RBI on the season. Suárez is the subject of trade rumors, and it’s important to note that his power can play at any park. Having a chance to drive in runs for a contending team — assuming the Diamondbacks aren’t by the end of next month — wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Gurriel doubled the Diamondbacks’ lead to 2-0 with a solo homer off Logan Webb. He’s now up to 11 on the season, and three of those roundtrippers came in the month of June. Gurriel’s slash of .250/.296/.414 isn’t awe-inspiring, but it’s important to note that his slash was a dismal .181/.204/.343 at the end of April.
