Friedl’s knock finished the scoring for the night. Thanks in large part to their eight walks, the Reds won despite being outhomered 2-0 and outhit 8-5. Friedl’s double was his lone hit in five at-bats. At .288/.381/.439 with eight homers to date, he’s starting to receive some All-Star chatter. However, the NL outfield is extremely stacked (Corbin Carroll, Kyle Tucker, Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Pete Crow-Armstrong, James Wood, Ronald Acuña Jr. and we could keep going) and it’ll probably take a couple of people dropping out to get Friedl in the mix.

All of the earned runs came in the sixth after Christian Encarnacion-Strand made a throwing error with two outs and none on. The next two batters singled, and Harrison Bader hit a home run to end Abbott’s night. Abbott gave up two homers and eight hits in all, so while it would have been a nice pitching line if not for the error, it definitely wasn’t one of his better performances. Abbott will make his next start on the road in St. Louis.

It was curious how Pagán and Tony Santillan were flipped in the bullpen Sunday, but things were back to normal tonight, with Santillan throwing a perfect eighth and Pagán working around a pair of walks in a scoreless ninth. Pagán still hasn’t blown a save since May 6.

The Braves are currently 12 games back in the NL East and seven games out of a Wild Card spot, so they face a real uphill climb to get back into the postseason race. If they don’t make up enough ground by the deadline, Feinsand believes Ozuna will be the most attractive rental for Atlanta. However, we also know he’s playing through a tear in his hip, so it’s unclear what kind of return he would net. Feinsand lists the Guardians, Rangers, and Tigers as potential trade destinations.

Brown also said that Alvarez “is not taking swings right now.” It’s unclear how the 27-year-old is “day-to-day” but also hasn’t begun swinging, but perhaps he’ll pick up a bat any day now. Until he does, we have no idea what his true timeline for return will be.
