Taylor also made a terrific catch on Austin Riley’s fly to deep center that ended the game in the Braves’ favor the 10th. Most wouldn’t have even bothered, since it was due to be a game-winning sac fly regardless, but Taylor made a great effort to run it down just in case Luke Williams, who was on third, assumed the ball would drop and declined to tag up. The homer off Spencer Schwellenbach was just Taylor’s second in 212 plate appearances this season.

The final two runs came after he left the game in the eighth. Peterson struck out just three, but he kept the ball on the ground throughout and was rewarded with a couple of double plays. It would be his seventh straight quality start if only he’d been allowed to get one more out against the Rockies on May 30. Alas, he didn’t factor into the decision tonight after Reed Garrett blew the lead in the eighth. Peterson is due to take on the Phillies on Sunday.

Garza returns to the big leagues ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against Atlanta as extra bullpen depth with starter Tylor Megill hitting the injured list with an elbow sprain. The well-traveled 31-year-old fired 3 2/3 scoreless frames over three relief appearances earlier this month after coming over from the Giants in a small trade.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Megill, who was set to take the ball on Friday against the Phillies, will miss at least 4-5 weeks, even in a best-case scenario. The 29-year-old righty told reporters that he isn’t dealing with any structural damage in his elbow and expects to re-start a throwing program within the next week or two once the inflammation subsides. He was tagged for six runs — three earned — over 3 2/3 innings in his last start on Saturday against the Rays. There’s no shortage of intriguing pitching prospects at Triple-A to fill the vacant rotation spot including Nolan McLean, Blade Tidwell or Brandon Sproat. The wild card is sensation Jonah Tong, but he’s still in Double-A. It’ll likely be a short-term stopgap with veterans Frankie Montas (lat) and Sean Manaea (oblique) getting close to returning for their respective season debuts.

Straw will continue to undergo further evaluation and testing after suffering a sprained ankle during a scary-looking collision with the center-field wall. He’s presumably day-to-day for now, but could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list depending on the severity of the sprain.
