It’s easy to forget that Grissom is only 24 years old. He’s now hitting .284 in 77 games at Triple-A with eight home runs, 35 RBI, 55 runs scored and an .806 OPS. Right now, the Red Sox may not even have room for Marcelo Mayer on the active roster when Alex Bregman (quad) returns, so they might need a trade to create a spot for Grissom as well.

It wasn’t clear if Duran would play tonight after the Red Sox said Masataka Yoshida would DH and Roman Anthony would start in left, but Duran got the call over Ceddanne Rafaela in center. That’s not an alignment that should continue, but it seems like they’re going to be sensible enough to keep playing Duran against righties. He’s 11-for-30 with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI in eight games this month, and he’s hitting .289/.358/.498 against righties for the year.

A home series versus the Rockies was just what Boston’s pitching staff needed. Of course, Giolito was already throwing well coming into this one, and he’s now 6-1 with a 3.36 ERA. The Red Sox should try to capitalize and send him to an actual contender before the deadline, though this recent stretch against weak clubs might convince them they still have a shot. Giolito will probably start Boston’s first game after the break against the Cubs.

Gonzalez’s homer off Seth Halvorsen was hit 368 feet to left. He earlier had a 409-foot flyout that would have been a homer in 20 ballparks. This was Boston’s first game with Gonzalez in the lineup and Abraham Toro out of it against a right-hander since Gonzalez came off the IL on June 2, so perhaps the tide is starting to turn. Gonzalez will be of interest in mixed leagues if the Red Sox start to play him regularly. He’s batting an incredible .338/.372/.603 in 148 plate appearances.

Perdomo turned a 2-0 game into a 6-0 lead with one swing of the bat. It was one of three homers that Arizona was able to hit in the game against Cease, and it was the 10th roundtripper of the year for Perdomo while bumping his RBI total to 64. Perdomo has shown flashes of fantasy brilliance in 2024, and there’s plenty of reason to think he’ll be a solid — if maybe unspectacular — option for the final 70-plus games.

Winn’s Cardinals could not get anything going against MacKenzie Gore in this one. He had a late single to score a run against reliever Cole Henry in what was otherwise a lackluster game for their lineup. His double earlier in the game was more of a cue shot that he only hit 56.5 mph off the bat. It was also just his third extra-base hit over the last two weeks as he’s been trapped in a bit of a power outage.

Bichette finished the three-game series 6-for-10 with three walks. He’d currently be working on a nine-game hitting streak if not for one appearance in which he came off the bench and had one at-bat.
