Despite signing D’Angelo Russell, the Mavericks clearly needed more ball-handlers. Kyrie Irving (ACL) is set to miss a significant portion of the 2025-26 season, and Spencer Dinwiddie has signed with the Hornets. For this reason, according to Charania’s report, they’ll hold onto Exum for another season. Injuries limited him to 20 games last season, with the former lottery pick averaging 8.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 three-pointers in 18.6 minutes. Since returning to the NBA during the 2023-24 season, Exum has improved significantly as a shooter. The ability to handle the ball and defend multiple positions will help Dallas account for Irving’s absence, but Exum is unlikely to impact fantasy basketball dramatically.

Russell figures to have a significant backcourt role with the Mavericks early in the season as Kyrie Irving recovers from injury. The 29-year-old point guard is also reunited with his former Lakers teammate Anthony Davis. Russell averaged 12.6 points per game and 5.1 assists per game in 58 games with the Lakers and Nets last season. Considering the lack of competition for usage he walks into in Dallas, Russell has fringe top-100 fantasy value in his range of outcomes.

Kelly spent the first four seasons of his college career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Auburn. Helping lead the Tigers to the Final Four, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this past season. Kelly is an athletic guard who shot nearly 38 percent from three as a redshirt senior. He’s likely to spend considerable time in the G League this season.

With D’Angelo Russell in Dallas, Dinwiddie became the odd man out in the backcourt, and he’ll take on a backup role behind LaMelo Ball. Given Ball’s voluminous injury history, it wouldn’t be surprising if Dinwiddie played enough to make meaningful contributions for fantasy managers.

The former University of Michigan standout is headed back to the state, as he has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Pistons. With Malik Beasley the subject of a gambling probe, Detroit could not afford not to add a bench scorer to their rotation. Between Cleveland and Atlanta, LeVert appeared in 64 games last season, averaging 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 three-pointers per game. LeVert finished the season ranked outside the top 150 in nine-cat formats and should again be a late-round option in standard league drafts.
