Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton

CARQB • #14

Andy Dalton completed 26-of-37 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ 36-22, Week 3 win over the Raiders.

Dave Canales left Dalton on the field for the final drive, including two kneel downs, after the veteran quarterback completely revived an offense that had managed just 13 points through two weeks. Canales also made good on his preseason promise that the offense would flow through Diontae Johnson, who commanded a robust 14 targets on 37 Dalton pass attempts. The decision to bench second-year quarterback Bryce Young looks like one of the better decisions of Canales’ young head coaching career considering how much better the offense looked with Dalton under center, providing a glimpse at Canales’ offensive scheme in the process. Pending unforeseen circumstances, Dalton should be under center for the Panthers when they host the Bengals in Week 4.
