Sam LaPorta

Sam LaPorta

DETTE • #87

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Sam LaPorta suffered a sprained ankle in Week 3 against the Cardinals.

LaPorta suffered the injury near the end of the first half while blocking for a Jahmyr Gibbs touchdown. He walked off the field but rode the cart into the locker room. A hobbled LaPorta returned in the third quarter but limped off after a few plays. He was on and off the field for the remainder of the game and even drew a questionable tag at one point, though he was on the field after receiving the designation. It’s clear LaPorta was fighting tooth and nail to play through the ankle issue when he should have taken the second half off. The severity of his ankle sprain is unknown, but he at least gets one extra day of rest with Detroit facing Seattle on Monday Night Football. If he can’t go, Brock Wright will take over the starting gig.
