NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Bengals traded Joe Mixon to the Texans.

It marks something of an about-face for the Bengals, who were widely expected to release Mixon, 27, after seven seasons with the team. Instead, they will deal the veteran to Houston, a running back-needy team that recently lost Devin Singletary to the Giants. Mixon should operate as Houston’s lead back over Dameon Pierce. Pierce is coming off one of the worst running back seasons in recent NFL history. Mixon managed over 1,400 total yards and a dozen touchdowns in 2023. It’s a quietly good spot for Mixon in an ascendant Texans offense. Houston last season had the eighth highest pass rate over expected in 2023.
