Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes

KCCQB • #15

Patrick Mahomes completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City’s 32-29, AFC Championship win over the Bills, adding 11 carries for 43 yards and two touchdowns.

The theme of this dominance was: “Ope, let me just scooch on by you.” Mahomes took a first-and-goal from the 10 and ran it in without even being hit hard to put the Chiefs up 29-22 early in the fourth quarter. His first rushing touchdown came just after the two-minute warning in the first half, and he found Xavier Worthy in the air the drive before that to push the Chiefs to a 21-16 halftime lead. The Bills rallied to tie the game at 29, and sacked Mahomes on first-and-goal with 4:28 when Jordan Phillips picked up left guard Mike Caliendo and deposited him in Mahomes’ lap. But the Chiefs kicked a successful field goal to take the lead, stopped Allen on fourth down on their last drive, and Mahomes was able to drain the rest of the clock with a pair of flat passes to running backs Isiah Pacheco and Samaje Perine. Mahomes is dominant despite never appearing physically dominant. It makes him feel more unflappable than inevitable. He just knows too much about how to win an NFL football game, and really your team wasn’t that interested in winning anyway, right? The Chiefs will take on the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX two Sundays from now with a chance to become the NFL’s first franchise to win three titles in a row since the 1965-67 Packers.
