Sam Howell

Seahawks GM John Schneider confirmed trade addition Sam Howell was not acquired to compete with Geno Smith.

This was probably obvious to most, but the idea had some purchase on social media after the Seahawks ever-so-slightly slow played Geno’s going-forward status this offseason. Howell had all the makings of a career backup in 2023, displaying some genuine play-making ability but demonstrating far too many valleys to go along with his peaks. He can come off the bench and win a game, but Smith is the vastly superior option for 2024.
