Sam Darnold

Vikings listed Sam Darnold as their starting QB for their first preseason game against the Raiders.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Darnold opened camp as the presumed QB1 and doesn’t appear to be giving up that title anytime soon. Rookie first-rounder J.J. McCarthy has had an up-and-down camp, which is expected from a player who was viewed by many as a project upon entering the league. It’d be surprising if Darnold held onto the starting job throughout the entire season, but we’d expect him to see his fair share of starts early in the season while McCarthy continues to get acclimated to the pro game.
