Wells drove in the Yankees’ first run in the ballgame as he worked a bases-loaded walk off of Angel Zerpa with two outs in the sixth inning. He then raced around to score on a three-run double by Jasson Domínguez. The overall slash line looks putrid at .196/.276/.451 to start the season, but the 25-year-old backstop has at least contributed three long balls and eight RBI.

The 37-year-old first baseman did his damage against Mason Montgomery in the fifth inning of this one, blasting an 0-1 fastball for a 350-foot (96.7 mph EV) game-changing home run. Goldschmidt also singled in the ballgame, finishing the evening 2-for-4. While the power hasn’t quite been there to start his Yankees’ career, Goldschmidt is slashing a robust .361/.406/.500 with three homers, 16 RBI and one stolen base.

Judge smacked a two-out triple off of Ryan Pepiot in the third inning but the Yankees were unable to cash him in from there. He then doubled with one out in the fifth inning to chase Ryan Pepiot from the ballgame and rode home on Paul Goldschmidt’s three-run blast. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old superstar is now slashing a ridiculous .430/.521/.777 with 10 homers, 32 RBI and three stolen bases on the season.

It’s the first save chance that Weaver has had since taking over the closer’s role from Devin Williams and he made it look extremely easy — getting Chandler Simpson on a line drive to right before striking out Yandy Diaz and Junior Caminero to end it. Weaver has yet to allow a run through his first 15 innings on the season while registering a 0.56 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio. For as long as he keeps the closer’s gig, he should be treated as one of the truly elite closers in the game.

Finally, some genuine signs of life from Diaz. He was just a few feet shy of a two-homer game as his double fell just short of the wall and he scorched each of those hits at least 104 mph off the bat. He’s recorded a hit in seven of his last nine games and over that span took a paltry .404 OPS all the way up to a still very mediocre .597 OPS.

The 29-year-old hurler will add a fresh arm to the Mets’ bullpen in advance of Friday night’s battle against the Cardinals. He had registered a 4.35 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a 14/9 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse. Ty Adcock was optioned out in a corresponding move on Friday.
