Roden reached base safely in five of his six plate appearances and came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in his second game back in the minors. The 25-year-old rookie was demoted earlier this week after hitting .178 with one homer through 28 games with the Blue Jays. He’s clearly talented enough from a hit tool standpoint to dominate in the upper minors, but it might take him some time to break through at the highest level.

Lukes took Luis Castillo deep to give the Jays a 5-0 lead. It’s the second roundtripper of the campaign for the 30-year-old outfielder, and he’s now driven in 11 runs over 54 at-bats. Lukes is a solid real-life fourth outfielder, but that doesn’t translate into much fantasy optimism.

Barger blistered the ball all night, and his three hits came with exit velocities of 116.5, 113.4 and 109.7 mph. The 25-year-old has hit the ball hard for most of the year, but the results just haven’t been there. They were Friday night to see his slash improve to .222/.286/.356. There’s more upside in Barger’s bat than fantasy managers might give him credit for.

Verdugo is back in the leadoff spot after opening Friday’s contest on the bench with lefty Bailey Falter on the hill for Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old figures to continue leading off against right-handed pitching with Ozzie Albies, who led off Friday’s series opener at PNC Park, getting the occasional opportunity versus southpaws.

Domínguez remains locked into the lower-third of New York’s lineup despite putting together a surreal three-homer explosion during Friday’s series opener in Sacramento. However, this decision might have more to do with the presence of lefty JP Sears on the mound for the Athletics than anything else. It’ll be veteran Paul Goldschmidt leading off with Trent Grisham hitting second. Aaron Judge will get a turn at DH with Ben Rice taking a spot on the bench to open Saturday afternoon’s matinee.

All grand slams are big, but grand slams that tie the game are a little more special. That’s what Gurriel did with his bases-clearing roundtripper off Anthony Banda in the fifth inning. He also had a fielder’s choice drive in a run an inning earlier. Gurriel has gone deep seven times while slashing .213/.238/.418
