All grand slams are big, but grand slams that tie the game are a little more special. That’s what Gurriel did with his bases-clearing roundtripper off Anthony Banda in the fifth inning. He also had a fielder’s choice drive in a run an inning earlier. Gurriel has gone deep seven times while slashing .213/.238/.418

Suárez absolutely shellacked a pitch from Dustin May out for a solo homer, and it traveled an estimated 455 feet. That’s the 12th homer of the season for the slugger, and he’s been able to drive in 27 runs; putting him on pace for another 100-RBI season.

Smith was just 1-for-19 in the month of May coming into Saturday’s game, but broke out of that funk in a nice way. His double in the ninth extended the D-Backs’ lead to 3-0, and gave him 10 RBI over 37 games played. Even with his scuffles in May, he’s still hitting .302/.442/.531 over 96 at-bats.

Nelson worked a scoreless eighth, and the D-Backs let the right-hander finish the job for his first save of the year. He threw 11-of-16 pitches for strikes and looked the part while keeping the Dodgers off the bases during those two frames, and even with a 5.01 ERA, it’s possible the D-Backs will turn to him again for save chances.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

He went 0-for-1 with a walk before leaving. It’s worth noting that Altuve’s exit comes in a game where Houston is trailing by five runs, so there’s at least a chance this is precautionary. He’ll likely undergo some testing before Sunday’s finale, but it seems likely that the 35-year-old will be out of that lineup for at least that game. Brendan Rodgers has taken over at second base.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.
