If you’re going to have to sit out a game, doing so against Jacob deGrom makes plenty of sense. Seth Brown will function as the A’s designated hitter on Thursday evening and will bat sixth against the Rangers’ right-hander.

With the scored tied 0-0, Soderstrom laced a two-run double off Patrick Corbin to give the A’s the lead and ultimately the victory. The 23-year-old first baseman has been exceptional over the first month of the season with 24 RBI over 29 games and an OPS of .940.

Miller did put the tying run on base with a walk, but he was able to keep that runner at bay while firing another scoreless outing. It’s a nice bounceback from Friday’s scuffle where he allowed two runs, and he remains perfect in save chances with a 9-for-9 rate. Miller is a special reliever who has a chance to be among the best in baseball for a very, very long time.

Sears scattered five hits, and issued just one walk. He was more deceptive than overpowering with his stuff — as is usually (always) the case — as he generated just six swing and misses among his 89 pitches. He was able to land 62 of those offerings for strikes in another soli start for the southpaw. He’s now 4-2 on the season, and his ERA has dropped to a very solid 2.94 in the process. He gets a friendly matchup against the Marlins next week.

Ohtani’s steal was the seventh of the season. The three walks bring his season total to 18, and his on-base percentage is a strong .392 over the first 28 games of 2025. Ohtani has now reached at least three times in three consecutive games, but it’s worth noting he hasn’t gone deep since April 16.

O’Hearn’s third-inning blast against Yankees starter Will Warren gave Baltimore a commanding three-run advantage, which they wouldn’t relinquish. The 31-year-old slugger has gone deep five times this season and is hitting .300 (21-for-70) through 21 games.

Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt told reporters Bryant’s visit with orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins will determine the next steps in his rehabilitation process. The 33-year-old was diagnosed earlier this month with lumbar degenerative disease and will have to manage the ongoing issue for the remainder of his playing career. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.
